What Training Do I Need?

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)

CBT is required by law before riding on public roads:

  • 50cc mopeds
  • Motorcycles up to 125cc

Light Motorcycle

  • 75cc to 125cc motorcycles
  • Maximum 11kW power output

A2

Standard Motorcycle

  • Minimum 245cc motorcycle
  • Minimum 20kW power output
  • Ride up to 35kW (47bhp)
  • Upgrade after 2 years or age 24

Unrestricted

  • Minimum 595cc motorcycle
  • Minimum 50kW power output
  • Ride any motorcycle

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) is the essential training required by law before you can ride a 50cc moped or motorcycle up to 125cc on public roads. It covers basic riding skills, road safety, and motorcycle control. Our CBT includes bike hire, safety equipment, and an additional training day if required — all at no extra cost.

CBT training costs £110 if you use your own bike, or £150 with bike hire included. Both options include safety equipment and an additional training day if required at no extra cost. You only need to bring suitable boots.

Due to recent legislation changes, we can only provide CBT training for riders aged 18 and over.

The Direct Access Scheme (DAS) allows riders aged 24 and over to gain a full unrestricted Category A motorcycle licence. Our unlimited DAS course costs £750 and includes both MOD 1 and MOD 2 tests. You'll train on a 600cc+ motorcycle and be able to ride any bike once you pass.

No — we provide motorcycle hire as part of our CBT and DAS courses. For individual lessons, you can use your own 125cc bike (£35/hr) or hire one of ours (£40/hr for 125cc, £60/hr for 600cc).

Yes! We have a specially lowered Suzuki Bandit available for shorter riders. It's designed to help build confidence and comfort while learning. Call us on 01294 311377 to discuss your needs.

You must bring your UK driving licence (provisional or full) and suitable boots that cover your ankles. We provide all safety equipment including helmets, gloves, and jackets. Wear comfortable trousers and bring weather-appropriate layers.
